Rocks.....GOOD GOLLY...how time flies when you get old...I can't believe
that it is time for our 25th year class reunion (do you realize that is a
quarter of a century?)...seems like only yesterday (or a couple of days ago)
that we were all there sneaking off school grounds and the girls driving
Debbie Fields (Cline now) crazy when we would hide out in the girl's
downstairs bathroom smoking...I haven't seen many of my fellow class mates
since graduation...and its funny to look back over the class list and
remember some of the things we did and got by with then. Actually, I was
looking through my old yearbooks a month or so ago showing my fiancée some
of you people and how dorky (I mean cute) I looked in those days. Oh how
sad it is to be old now....I want to be that foolish idiot again. I was
just remembering a time when we were Freshmen (I think) after track season
was over and a bunch of us went up to Mile Tree Dam after 5th period.
Believe it or not I couldn't swim at that time and Shelly Whipkey was trying
to swim to a little island or something with me on her back and I just about
drowned both of us....needless to say...I learned to swim that summer and I
haven't drowned anybody (not even my Ex). (See, I can remember some things
from back then...I'm not fully senile yet) Anyway, I hope to see all the
Class of '81 at the class reunion in a couple of weeks....(I almost forgot
about it - again, getting old sucks), but I plan to be there at least for
Saturday evening. Hopefully my eyesight is still good enough to recognize
all you old geezers (ha ha)...Looking forward to it...I'll still be the best

I am still working on a book regarding growing
up in Spencer during the 1950s and 1960s.
I invite anyone who was living in Spencer or
Roane County during that time to send me some thoughts and memories.
Tell me what you remember about family, church,
school, local businesses, people, fads, cars, clothing, dances, dating,
songs, and anything else that sticks in your memory.
To me growing up in Spencer, WV during that
time, having the parents, classmates, friends, mentors, and peers that I had
could not have been any better, and I am trying to capture that in a book.
Please send me anything about that time. I hope
to have at least a good draft done by our next all class reunion.

My mother Shirley Marshall graduated with the class of 1942, and the kids that I
grew up with graduated with the classes of 58 thru 60. Had a great time getting
to see old friends. Was a joy to renew so many old friendships. My mom did not
think she would be able to do the whole day, but she did and had a great time.
We look forward to the next one in another 5 years.
